Lapwings and Winter Stubble

For me, the return of the lapwings to our valley is the first sign that the year has turned. The days are still achingly short, the weather normally atrocious, but the sound of those birds calling as they freewheel, plummet and dive in the skies brings me such joy at an otherwise bleak point in the year.

I was just emerging from the fug of raising my small children when I made Lapwings. It holds a special place for me as the moment when I decided to let my printmaking take on a more central role in my life. Like the lapwings it depicts, it was a return to a world I loved.

Lapwings and Winter Stubble is a two block print with an additional spot of monoprinting. It was hand pulled as an edition of ten.
