From Shoreside

My first favourite view once we’d moved to Orkney, From Shoreside is the scene I drink my morning coffee to. We sit together on our yellow bench, watching the seals, the waves, the boats coming to and from the harbour at the end of the village. The rocks are coated with twisted wrack seaweed, and I have been in love with the shapes and forms of it since day one, so it has pride of place here.

This print represents a change of pace for our family, and is a return to work for me following a period of upheaval and dramatic change.

Edition of 12 plus AP

Oil based ink on Japanese Hosho paper

Approx. 15x20cm

From Shoreside is a gentle way of dipping my toes into a new landscape, and of familiarising myself with the new shapes and forms I’ve found here, as well as discovering a new colour palette to describe my home with. I wanted From Shoreside to give off the feeling of calm which I get from the same view each day, and I set it at night when I have often ventured to the bottom of the garden to secretly watch wildlife whilst hidden in the shadows.
