Personal Projects

Every now and again I make a print for no purpose. I’m not thinking of any sort of commercial potential, whether it would make a good greeting card, or hang well on a wall. Nobody has asked me to do it. It’s a personal project print.

It’s important to me to keep doing this: it’s sort of like CPD, but on my terms. I use personal projects to explore something I’m fascinated by, whether that is discovering new ways of mark making, capturing a moment in my life which is important to me, learning about composition, light, tone, texture, etc, or just overcoming a dry patch in my creative process.

Mostly my personal prints are single block because that’s often all I have the time to do in between work which will keep my head above the water. Every now and again, a personal project takes on a life of its own, and even becomes a commercial success.

It’s freeing not being tied to having to think about my work commercially, and sadly it’s something I don’t do often enough. Have a click through to learn more about each one.
