Nesting
Hanging out of a loft window in Tarbert on Harris in May 2019, I watched this pair of pigeons having a slow morning from the warmth and comfort of their respective chimneypots.
I sketched the scene (whilst being devoured by midges), took some photos and worked the whole thing up into this simple linocut once I’d made it back home to Northumberland.
I love to get up above street level; there’s a whole other world so high up off the ground.

Hanging out of the loft Velux window in a hostel on the Isle of Harris, I was privileged enough to witness these two going about their daily business of socialising from their respective chimney pots. Midges and the need to move on kept my encounter short, but I still recall the simple charm of that moment, alone and privy to this small portion of life above street level.
